TopicDrill Editorial Editorial teamEvery figure on this site is checked against its primary source before publication, and re-checked when that source republishes.
TopicDrill publishes general information about US personal finance. It is not financial, tax, legal or investment advice, no reader-adviser relationship is created by using it, and every figure should be confirmed against its primary source or with a licensed professional before you act on it.

This is information, not advice
Everything on this site is general information published for a general audience. It is not financial, tax, legal, accounting or investment advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything.
Nothing here accounts for your income, your filing status, your state, your debts, your dependants or your goals. Two people reading the same page can owe entirely different amounts. Using this site creates no adviser relationship, no client relationship and no duty of care between you and TopicDrill.
The calculators estimate
Every tool on this site is an estimator. Each one reads published federal and state figures and applies them to the numbers you type in.
What that leaves out is most of a real tax situation: local and municipal taxes, credits and deductions you may qualify for, pre-tax benefits, garnishments, multi-state work, self-employment income alongside wages, and the dozens of adjustments a preparer would ask you about. A result is a starting point for a conversation, not a filing.
Where a tool cannot compute something honestly, it says so rather than guessing. A state with graduated income tax brackets returns no state figure, because we publish that state's top marginal rate rather than its full bracket table, and applying a top rate to every dollar would overstate the bill, sometimes by thousands.
Figures go out of date
Rates, thresholds, limits and fees change, sometimes mid-year and sometimes retroactively. Every figure on this site carries the source it came from and the date it took effect, and we re-check when a source republishes.
That is a process, not a guarantee. A figure can be correct on the day it is published and wrong the following week. Before you act on a number, confirm it against the primary source named on the page. Where our figure and the IRS, the SSA, the Department of Labor or your state revenue department disagree, they are right and we are wrong.
We are not your preparer
We cannot file for you, review your return, represent you before a tax authority or tell you what to do in your situation. For that you need a licensed professional who can look at your actual circumstances: a CPA, an enrolled agent, a licensed insurance agent, or an attorney.
Products and third parties
Comparison and review pages describe products offered by third parties. We do not issue, underwrite, service or guarantee any of them, and we have no control over their terms.
Rates, fees, eligibility rules and offers change without notice and often differ from what a provider advertises publicly once your own application is assessed. Confirm current terms with the provider before applying. Some of the links to those providers earn us a commission, which is set out in full in our advertiser disclosure.
External links
Links to other sites are provided because the material they hold is useful, usually because it is the primary source for a figure we quote. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices.
Limitation of liability
TopicDrill provides this site on an as-is basis and makes no warranty that it is complete, current or error-free. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss arising from reliance on anything published here.
If you find a mistake, tell us. We publish what we correct and when, under our corrections policy.

Frequently asked questions
Is TopicDrill financial advice?
No. Everything on this site is general information published for a general audience. It does not account for your income, filing status, state or circumstances, and using the site creates no adviser relationship.
Can I file my taxes using a TopicDrill calculator result?
No. The calculators are estimators. They leave out local taxes, credits, deductions, pre-tax benefits and the adjustments a preparer would ask you about. Use the result as a starting point and confirm the figures with a licensed professional.
What if a figure on the site is wrong?
The primary source named on the page is authoritative, not us. If they disagree, follow the source and tell us through the contact page. Corrections are published under our corrections policy.
Every figure on this page is attributed to a named source with the date it took effect. Our reviewers check them against the primary source before publication.

Experience
We publish nothing without a source. Every rate, threshold and limit on this site is attributed to the IRS, the SSA, the Department of Labor or a state revenue department, with the date that figure took effect recorded alongside it.
When a source republishes, the figure is re-checked and the page's updated date moves. Where a number is disputed or varies by locality, we say so on the page rather than picking one and hoping.
