TopicDrill is an independent publisher of US personal and small-business finance information. We publish tax rates, withholding figures, contribution limits, minimum wage and property tax for all fifty states and the District of Columbia, with the source and effective date attached to every figure. We are not a government agency.

Contents

What we publish

The numbers that govern everyday money decisions in the United States: federal tax brackets, withholding rates, FICA thresholds, retirement contribution limits, state income tax, sales tax, property tax and minimum wage. Every figure carries a named source and the date it took effect.

Around those figures we publish explanatory guides, product comparisons and calculators. The calculators read the same data as the articles, so a tool result and the guidance beside it cannot disagree.

Who it is for

People making a specific decision. What a bonus will actually net. Whether moving states changes a tax bill. How much an LLC costs to form and keep. How much can go into a 401(k) this year. We are not trying to be a personal finance magazine, and we do not publish market commentary or opinion about where anything is heading.

We are not a government website

TopicDrill is an independent publisher. We cite the IRS, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Labor and state revenue departments, and we link to them directly, but we are not affiliated with any of them and we do not speak for any of them.

If a figure here disagrees with the agency that publishes it, the agency is right and we have a bug. Tell us.

How we work

Four things we hold ourselves to:

  1. Every figure is attributed. No number appears without a named source and the date that source took effect.
  2. Tax and payroll figures are reviewed before publication. A named reviewer checks them against the primary source, and again when the source republishes.
  3. The calculators use the published figures. One data layer serves both the articles and the tools.
  4. We say how we make money. Some links earn a commission. That never affects a ranking, and every page carrying one discloses it above the article.

This is not advice

Everything here is general information. Tax rules interact with circumstances we know nothing about, and the right answer for you may not be the general one. For a decision that matters, talk to a licensed professional.

Experience

We publish nothing without a source. Every rate, threshold and limit on this site is attributed to the IRS, the SSA, the Department of Labor or a state revenue department, with the date that figure took effect recorded alongside it.

When a source republishes, the figure is re-checked and the page's updated date moves. Where a number is disputed or varies by locality, we say so on the page rather than picking one and hoping.
