Accessibility

The standard

We build to WCAG 2.2 level AA. That is a target we hold ourselves to, not a certification anybody has granted us.

What that means in practice

• Text size. Body text is never below 16 pixels, and the page reflows rather than breaking when text is enlarged.
• Contrast. Every colour pairing is checked against the AA threshold before it ships, not after. Our primary blue sits at 6.7:1 on white; body text at 17:1.
• Keyboard. Every control is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a sensible order, with a visible focus outline. A skip link goes straight to the main content.
• Tables. Data is in real tables with real header cells, so a screen reader announces the row and column a figure belongs to. Wide tables scroll inside their own container rather than breaking the page.
• Calculators. Results are announced when they change, so a screen reader user hears the new figure rather than having to hunt for it.
• Images. Meaningful images carry alt text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology rather than described pointlessly.
• Motion. We use very little, and what exists respects a reduced-motion preference.

Where we know we fall short

We would rather list this than claim perfection:

• Some third-party advertising, where it appears, is outside our control and may not meet the same standard.
• Complex data tables on the state comparison pages are usable but dense on a small screen.
