Corrections policy
How to report an error, and what we do when there is one.
TopicDrill Editorial Editorial teamEvery figure on this site is checked against its primary source before publication, and re-checked when that source republishes.
Report an error through our contact page. Substantive corrections are made on the page itself, noted at the bottom and dated. We do not quietly edit a figure and pretend it was always right.
Report an error
Email us through the contact page. The most useful report includes the page, the figure you think is wrong, and the source you are comparing it to. That last part turns a report into a fix in minutes rather than hours.
What happens next
- We check the claim against the primary source.
- If it is wrong, we fix it immediately. Correctness comes before process.
- A correction note is added to the page, saying what was wrong and when it was fixed.
- If the same error appears elsewhere, we fix those pages too.
Correction, or update
We distinguish two things:
A correction means we published something inaccurate. It gets a dated note on the page, and it stays there.
An update means the world changed: a new tax year, a rate that took effect, a product that altered its terms. The page's updated date changes and no correction note appears, because nothing was wrong.
Calling an update a correction would be false modesty. Calling a correction an update would be dishonest.
What we do not do
We do not delete a page to make an error disappear. We do not edit a figure silently. We do not remove a correction note once the memory of the error has faded.
Response time
We aim to acknowledge a report within two business days and to correct a confirmed factual error the same day we confirm it.
Every figure on this page is attributed to a named source with the date it took effect. Our reviewers check them against the primary source before publication.

Experience
We publish nothing without a source. Every rate, threshold and limit on this site is attributed to the IRS, the SSA, the Department of Labor or a state revenue department, with the date that figure took effect recorded alongside it.
When a source republishes, the figure is re-checked and the page's updated date moves. Where a number is disputed or varies by locality, we say so on the page rather than picking one and hoping.
